Firstly if you are looking to buy Ready To Wear handmade jewellery then you can buy online safely and securely from my Online Jewellery Shop. Otherwise here's my guide on how to order and buy bespoke jewellery...
A Guide to Ordering Bespoke Jewellery
1. Briefing & Price Estimate
It doesn't matter whether you have a vague idea what you want or have it all worked out, Alison can guide you and suggest possible ideas and alternatives to suit your budget. Once you've discussed what you are looking for Alison will be able to give you a ball park estimate of costs.
Alison sketches out ideas on paper. With a less certain brief she can produce a wider range of ideas to help decide what you'd really like. The more specific your brief, the more she will narrow in on the details.
Once you have discussed the sketches and agreed on a design it can be redrawn in more detail, indicating the size, materials and stones to be used.
Alison charges £50 for design sketches to cover the cost of her time. This will be subtracted from the final price if you have your design made.
3D Model (optional service)
At this stage we can build a virtual 3D model using computer aided design (CAD) to show you the item from any angle and produce photo-realistic images. Fees for this optional service start at £75. Customers have found this to be a worthwhile check before committing to any metal being cut. Also it's quite fun to have the pictures afterwards!
3. Agree to Proceed
At this stage if you are happy with the sketches, price (and 3D models if any) then you give us the go ahead! We require 1/2 of the payment up-front to proceed, which basically covers the cost of materials. We've found this works best for everyone.
4. Handcrafting
Alison will source the (conflict free) stones and metal required, and then handmake your item using the appropriate techniques, to the pre-finishing stage.
5. Fitting
On items that need to fit closely (e.g. rings) we like to check their size on you before finishing and polishing. This avoids redoing work later if the size needs adjustment.
Ideally you'll come in to the workshop for fitting, particularly if it is a wax master for casting as these are very delicate. Alternatively Alison can visit you if you're near by, and lastly there's always the post.
6. Finishing & Hallmarking
Your item is cleaned up and all manufacturing marks smoothed off. The finish you asked for such as polishing or hammering is applied, and the item inspected. It's then sent to the Assay Office in London to be examined and Hallmarked with Alison's makers mark, the material and date marks.
7. Packaging & Delivery
Once the item has arrived back here, we re-inspect it, and then let you know that it's ready to dispatch. It will be packaged up in Alison's special display boxes, and sent on it's way.
Happy You!
Hopefully you are completely satisfied with your new piece of jewellery... If it's a gift for someone, particularly if you're about to give it to them on bended knee, then it's over to you. Good Luck! Do let us know how you get on with your jewellery we love to hear your stories.
If (heaven forbid) you aren't over the moon about your handmade jewellery ... don't worry, read our returns policy and get in touch. We take a lot of pride in making people happy.
